What it takes to rank top of the search engines for the key phrase sales recruitment.

We built a great job board, visually pleasing, easy to navigate and with full e-commerce facilities and then went about offering recruitment agencies and employers free trials to fill the site with thousands of sales jobs. Little did we know just how tough it was going to be to get a top ranking for our key words, who could imagine that there would be over 13,000,000 websites worldwide competing for the phrase sales jobs? We spent thousands on sponsored traffic on a variety of search engines, but the number of registrations was low and sales job applications even lower, we were desperate to get our site to the top of the big 3 search engines with top 10 natural listings.

We investigated hundreds of websites with SEO services guaranteeing to get us a top 10 listing for a few hundred pounds , and we were daft enough to try several out and wasted our money, then we were introduced to an SEO consultant who cam and visited our business. The consultant demonstrated a genuine understanding of online recruitment and a real interest in our business and what we were trying to achieve. He then took the time to explain what the key factors were that influence a sites ranking on the major search engines and also showed us reports of how our site compared to the current sites ranking in the top 10 for sales jobs. We were also offered training to be able to do the necessary work ourselves or the SEO Company would do the work for us, no guarantees were offered but testimonials were provided from other clients that were seeking top search engine ranking for other popular key words.

What was amazing were how simple the basic concepts were, firstly having each page individually optimised and benchmarked against the existing top ten sites, for example if they used the key word sales jobs between 3 and 5 times in their page title, you do the same, explaining the importance of keyword density and that there were various software packages available to help analyse the density of each page of your site that you optimise. The next important step was to create one way theme based links to your site from other web pages that were relevant to the content of your site and that this should be from a variety of sites including sites with pages relevant to jobs, social networks, blogs, directories, social bookmarks, article directories and press sites, if your competitor had a thousand links then your site needed at least a thousand. The real catch 22 factor was that you needed plenty of traffic to get a high ranking and yet we thought you needed a high ranking or a massive budget to get the high volume of traffic, there was even a cheap solution to that problem that involved buying bulk traffic for as little as £200 for 100,000 visitors.

We took the leap of faith and signed a 12 month contract with the SEO company after taking up references, 8 months later we are not just in the top 10 for sales jobs, we have over 1000 keywords in the top 10 of the major search engines and over 300,000 jobseekers visiting our site every month.
