What Alkaline Water Can Do For You

A free article on Alternative Medicine

By: Paul Fitzgerald

Water forms about 70% of the body and almost 94% of the blood. Water should be consumed daily in order to maintain the proper functioning of the metabolic activities. There should be an average intake of about 2 liters to 4 liters of alkaline water every day. Most of us have some knowledge of that.

A deficiency of water can lead to excessive thirst, fatigue, headache, dry mouth, little or no urination, muscle weakness, dizziness, etc. There is also a loss of glucose, fats and proteins.

Since water is essential to healthy living, the quality of water should likewise be good. Water can be classified as acidic and alkaline based on the pH value of the water. Water of a pH value less than 7 is considered to be acidic and water with a pH value greater than 7 as alkaline.

Acidic water generally consists of unhealthy micro-organisms like bacteria and viruses. These acidic wastes are then transferred to our bodies by the water which we consume. This causes the cells and the organs in the body to deteriorate, thereby causing irregular function of the heart and the brain.

Hence the water consumed should be alkaline in nature. This helps in neutralizing these acids and aids in removing the toxins from the body. This also helps in the proper electrochemical activities of the cells.

Ideally water must have pH values ranging from 9 to 10. Alkaline water helps you in resisting diseases and slow aging by increasing the intracellular hydration, reinstating the essential minerals in the body, stabilizing and protecting the cells, maintaining normal blood flow, preventing wastes from getting accumulated in the cells and by preventing the formation of radicals.

Water is generally 'alkalized' or 'ionized' by means of distiller, water ionizer and by adding alkaline ingredients to the water. The distiller converts the water into steam and condenses it back to remove impurities and other acidic toxins to make the water pH neutral or slightly alkaline in nature. This type of water is one of the purest ones available. The problem however is that most of the nutrients get killed off along with the other impurities. So the best way is for mineralizing the distilled water.

The next method is by ionizing the water using electrically charged process. Positive anodes and negative cathodes are used for this purpose. The acidic water and the alkali rich water are collected. The alkaline water is then used for drinking while the acidic water is used for killing of bacteria. The third method is by adding alkaline ingredients such as lemon water or pH drops.
