Depression might not seem a big deal in its simplest form. In fact, we are all expected to get depressed occasionally. What is not expected is that we feel suicidal or immobilized by the emotion. This is never a good sign; at such times you ought to go see a doctor or talk to those that love and care for you. They will be able to help you before you do something harmful to yourself. Mania is something that can result from a depressive state that has been neglected. All of a sudden you could feel like there is no point to anything anymore, and you might want to be hurting yourself or others. The people who suffer the most, aside from yourself, are the people closest to you. Depression is an illness that affects everybody. You could be black or white, green or orange; as long as you’ve got feelings, depression is one of them. Now here’s the catch: not everybody is manic or clinical depressive. If you are one of those, you need help, and you need it fast. Talk to friends that truly love and care for you and they will help you out... much more than you can help yourself. You know, there are times that depression gets so bad that you need professional help to beat it. Mental health professionals are some of the people you may turn to at such a time. They define the condition using the term clinical depression and refer to several documented forms of depression, of which you might know a few. Depression comes slowly and gradually worsens until it becomes a full fledged disease. On the other hand, the depression could erupt out of the blues; suddenly coming upon you within the matter of a few weeks or days. This is admittedly not usual, but you might want to be on the lookout. Depression rarely, if ever, comes upon you as a blast. It begins softly, and then it deepens gradually over several months or years, depending on how quickly you catch it - or not. I'd pray you were one of the few people who caught on quick so YOU don't make a mess of YOU, before it's too late. Depression is a condition that messes with all of your body’s systems. Your appetite and your sleep habits are often the fist to change. Soon enough, your whole world is affected; and then you probably go visit a doctor and complain of various bodily ailments when it only “the blues.” A lot of people experience depression all the time. Of those who do, many will also do again sometime in the future - about 85 percent of them. It's like the condition leaves a footprint on you that it loves to visit again from time to time. There might not even be a permanent solution to this - merely that you must proceed to handle it every time it happens. In other words, don't give it room to breed within you. It matters little what the status quo is with a person suffering from severe depression; they are prone to look down on themselves anyhow. Even though you are very competent and decent, you could feel deficient, cruel and stupid. It is best simply never to allow the condition to depreciate that far. We are all special creatures, including YOU. Don’t ever let anyone or anything make you think otherwise. Some people get so depressed that they become psychotic. When this happens, their treatment periods often tend to be longer than other suffers because the condition has become critical. Someone like that needs longer time in a hospital. An obvious cause such as marital conflict or financial difficulty might seem to you as the reason for your depression, but it has got to be something that is really reaching you on the inside. So - therein lies your source of getting rid of such feelings. Look within and fill yourself up with happiness. If you do, you will be on your way towards getting rid of depression. Twins are a case study for depression and depressive traits. Based on results obtained from researchers in the United States, proof has surfaced suggesting that the nature of semblance of their genes is synonymous to their level of depression. Don't be surprised to find twins that are usually depressed at the same time. There is a distinct possibility that an imbalance of hormones in your body may play a role in depression. You may understand this simply by studying women. Some of them can get very emotional and even unreasonable when their hormones rage. Depression is one of these emotions, and sometimes it can get very extreme. When you feel stressed, there is a hormone that is secreted by your adrenal gland. This hormone is known as hydrocortisone. When a lot of it is secreted, you are very likely to become depressed. Blaming themselves is something you will find a depressed person doing a lot of the time. Whatever the misfortune, they tend to take the blame upon their own shoulders. Little wonder they are so prone to commit suicide, or at least attempt it. Even if you must blame yourself, it should be to learn the valuable lessons inherent when one makes mistakes. It’s not to constantly beat yourself into the ground. That’s counterproductive. Depression is a weird emotion at best, regularly causing you to behave in the most dependent, yet hostile manner conceivable. You also tend to appear impulsive, yet pointless in your activity.
