How To Purchase Quality Used Ophthalmic Equipment

By: John Denvert

It is surely an easy task for people these days to find a distributor of machines prominent in the ophthalmology field. For those who are looking for these machines, the person can pick from a wide range of products. They can even find refurbished, remanufactured, or used ophthalmic equipment. Whatever one's choice is, one will have to pay a large sum just for a single purchase.

Of course, there is no end to the options that the person can pick from when one decides to choose from these types of machines. The common tools are the cheapest one. Examples of these tools are stands, chairs, slit lamps, and phoropters. For the higher-end materials, they have to think of a bigger budget to make their purchase.

Regardless of whether it is a higher-end machine or not, it is a given to think about it carefully. This is because the advantage of buying these machines will easily be overshadowed by the disadvantages that comes with picking the wrong ones. If the person is not careful in his or her decision, using the machines might put one's patients at risk during surgical procedures.

One is not discouraged from buying these preloved machines though. Just that, be aware of the right factors to check before making the final decision. Nowadays, more and more practitioners are looking for preloved items to cut down on their cost. If they can make the right decision, they can buy the machines necessary for a fully equipped examination without paying too much.

There are numerous factors one has to pay attention to when buying these machines, though. First of all, one has to be able to distinguish what is pre-owned, remanufactured, and refurbished. No matter how different these three may sound from each other, the bottom line is that they are still the same kind of machines.

Be sure to have certain points in mind when buying these preloved machines. The person will have to pay attention to every corner of the machine so that one can ensure that it will really work well. The preloved machines do not have warranties on them and so one will lose in the end when the machine breaks down after a short while.

If the person has his eyes on a remanufactured machine, just remember that it is one which is taken completely apart, then repaired and rebuilt according to the manufacturer's original specs. After the entire process, it is then reassembled and sold. Remanufactured machines are those products that are good as new but cost less. Such machines have limited warranty, though.

For the refurbished ones, these are the machines that are not more than two years old. The said machines are those cleaned up a bit, with the broken parts replaced. They do not go through the same rigorous process as remanufactured machines. The result of this is a machine that looks a bit old but still functions like the original.

The person should always consider these things before making the final decision. Put a weight on the prices of the used ophthalmic equipment. Of course, one should never compromise on the quality and the length of the warranty. It is better to have a balance between these factors so that the person can ensure that he or she can take advantage of the product to the limit.
