Rajkot is the 4th largest city in the state of Gujarat, India. Rajkot is the 28th urban agglomeration in India, with a population more than 1.43 million as on 2008.Rajkot is ranked 22nd in The world fastest growing cities and urban areas from 2006 to 2020.Rajkot is a city of Gujarat state in India and administrative headquarters of the Rajkot District, located on the banks of the Aji River and Niari River. Rajkot was the capital of the then Saurashtra state from 15 April 1948 to 31 October 1956 before merging in bilingual Bombay State on 1 November 1956. Rajkot was merged into Gujarat State from bilingual Bombay state on May 1, 1960. Rajkot has been under many different rulers since it was founded. Rajkot has a long history and played a significant part in Indian independence movement.

Bus rapid transit (BRT) is a broad term given to a variety of transportation systems that, through improvements to infrastructure, vehicles and scheduling, attempt to use buses to provide a service that is of a higher quality than an ordinary bus line. Each BRT system uses different improvements, although many improvements are shared by many BRT systems. The goal of such systems is to at least approach the service quality of rail transit while still enjoying the cost savings of bus transit. The expression BRT is mainly used in North America; in Europe and Australia, it is often called a busway, while elsewhere, one may speak of quality bus or simply bus service while raising the quality.

Rajkot is a district in the Indian state of Gujarat with the administrative headquarters of Rajkot city. This district is surrounded by Kutch (North), Surendranagar, Bhavnagar (East), Amreli, Junagadh (South) and Jamnagar (West) districts. It is the third-most advanced district in Gujarat. It had a population of 3,169,881 of which 51.29% were urban as of 2001. Rajkot had a total population of 10,03,015. Males are 5,25,898 and females are 5,25,898, in percent males are 52.43% and females are 47.57% of the total population in Rajkot (RMC) and it's suburbs including Manharpur, Madhapar, Anandpar, Munjka, Mota Mova, Vavdi, Bedi and Kotharia. Figures are As of 2006. Rajkot city has an average literacy rate of 80.6%, higher than the national average.

A clear majority of the people here are Hindus. In fact, over 90% of the people are Hindus. Jains also form a big group belonging to the bania caste. Many intermarriages between the Hindus and the Jains occur quite frequently. Aji River is one the main river of saurashtra (region), Gujarat State. It is called life line of Rajkot City and separates Rajkot in east-west parts. There are four dams on Aji River. Water of them are being used for agriculture and drinking purposes. One of the world's oldest mountain ranges, the Aravalli Range, cradles the only hill station of Rajasthan, Mount Abu, and its world-famous Dilwara Temples, a sacred pilgrimage for Jains.

Eastern Rajasthan has two national tiger reserves, Ranthambore and Sariska, as well as Keoladeo National Park near Bharatpur, once famous for its bird life.The governing structure of RMC consists of political and administrative wings. The political wing is an elected body of councilors headed by a Mayor. The Commissioner from the IAS cadre heads the administrative wing and is responsible for strategic and operational planning and management of the Corporation. The Commissioner takes decisions on behalf of the Board or the Standing Committee formed from the elected councilors to perform the duties of the Corporation.
