Boy’s Bedroom Organizing Tips

By: KimmyProulx

A boy’s bedroom can be a messy place, but it doesn’t have to be. If you instill a sense of responsibility early on then your son will know what’s expected. To avoid the “I don’t want to clean-up” argument, it’s important to find good storage pieces that make putting items in their place a cinch. Once your son experiences the feeling of having a clean room he’ll be more likely to keep it that way. Below are some boy items that tend to be scattered around most boy’s bedrooms.

* Clothes
* Shoes
* Toys
* Books
* Sporting Gear

Clothing

There are many handsome storage options available that will help keep your boy's bedroom looking neat and tidy. Dressers come equipped with multiple drawers that provide plenty of storage space for everything from T-shirts, sweaters, and jeans to pajamas, underwear, and socks. Chests and armoires are versatile storage pieces that often combine drawers and shelves to accommodate clothing, shoes, books, toys, and more. They also come in a variety of sizes and heights for hard-to-fit spaces. Last but not least, a hamper ensures that dirty clothes stay out of sight until laundry day.

Shoes

A stray shoe can become a thing of the past with the proper organizer. A Cubby Bench does double duty by providing plenty of storage while offering a spot to sit when putting on your shoes. Floor Shoe Racks can be placed on the floor of your son's closet or even on the bedroom floor flush against a wall. If the closet (or bedroom floor) is tight on space, an over-the-door Shoe Rack is a great choice as it can be hung over the back of a closet or bedroom door. Or, purchase two – one for each door – and use one for shoes, the other for small toys or art supplies.

Toys

Keeping toys organized and at the ready brings a smile to everyone's face. You'll appreciate not stepping on an errant action figure, and your child will delight in finding his favorite things exactly where they are supposed to be. A Toy Bin Organizer is equipped with separate bins that allow your child to sort toys by type. Open tops make it easier to peer at what's inside. With so many options, you'll be able to find a piece that suits your décor. Another choice is a Toy Chest or Toy Box. Most are equipped with a top to keep toys neatly hidden away, giving your boy's bedroom a clean, tidy look. You can place a toy chest against a wall or inside your child's closet.

Books

Create an at-home library for your boy's bedroom with organizers that fit your space and your child's growing collection of books. We love the Sling Bookshelf – made of fabric, you can easily slip loads of books into each shelf. Best of all, it doesn't take up a lot of floor space. You can also convert your dresser into a storage piece for displaying keepsakes and favorite reads with the addition of a Hutch. A good old-fashioned Bookshelf is another great find, with plenty of shelf space to hold everything from the classics to textbooks. If your child's bedroom is space challenged, consider purchasing a few wall shelves. Note: be sure to add bookends to keep everything in place.

Sporting Gear

If your boy is a sports enthusiast, outfit his room with gear that can handle all his equipment. Fill decorative Baskets with everything from basketballs to hockey sticks. If baseball's the name of the game, you can purchase a Baseball Mitt Shelf that's specifically designed to hold and display your son's mitt collection. Storage Lockers that mimic the look and feel of a real locker not only look cool, but also provide plenty of space for sports gear. And, of course, you will need a place to display all of those trophies, awards, and team photos. Create his very own hall of fame by adding a Hutch to his dresser.

By purchasing a few key items, keeping your boy's bedroom organized and tidy will become a routine task. He will appreciate being able to quickly find exactly what he’s looking for. Best of all, those dreaded words, "Clean your room," will no longer seem so daunting. And that should make everyone in the household happy.

Find out how to organize a boy’s bedroom just once so that it stays clean forever.
