Newcastle upon Tyne is a city in Tyne and Wear, England that was formerly part of the old English county of Northumberland. Newcastle upon Tyne derives its name from its status of being on the banks of the River Tyne, as well as the castle built by Robert II of Normandy, who was the eldest son of William the Conqueror. Before becoming Newcastle, the city was a Roman settlement starting from the 2nd century, under the name Pons Aelius.

Newcastle is also known for its traditionally famous football club Newcastle United, which currently houses stars such as England Striker Michael Owen.

Whenever one thinks of Newcastle, one thinks of the Tyne Bridge which links Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. It was originally designed by Mott, Hay, and Anderson who also designed the Forth Road Bridge. The bridge was then built by Dorman Long and Co. The Tyne Bridge was also featured in the movie 'Goal,' which is about Santiago Munez, an aspiring football player who tried out for the Newcastle United Football Club.

Another place of interest is definitely St. James Park, the home stadium of Newcastle United. The large stadium can fit up to 52,387 fans, making it the third largest stadium in the Premier league.

When one visits Newcastle, the first thing they have to visit is the Tyne Bridge. The bridge is so famous that many people revise their travel plans just to visit Newcastle while taking the bridge from Gateshead.

The nightlife in Newcastle is also very interesting. The pub culture is as popular here as anywhere in England, and the atmosphere is as magnificently dark and suave, as it is depicted in movies.

Of course, there is no forgetting the football. St. James Park is one of the most famous stadiums in England. While tickets are a bit hard to grab a hold of, they are probably worth the time and the money, as the football culture in Newcastle is one of the most interesting ones in all England.

There also exist several exquisite restaurants and food stalls in Newcastle upon Tyne. One specific place of interest is the Black Bull Public House, which is one of the most famous pubs in all Newcastle upon Tyne. It is famous on football match days and apparently offers some of the best beer in the whole city. Testimonies from match-goers state that Black Bull provides a good match experience that doesn't require one to visit St. James Park.

A good restaurant in Newcastle is Comfort Food Co Ltd. The food is well cooked and well presented according to testimonies. The restaurant also offers wine. The restaurant is usually half full by 9 pm, so tourists should try to get there early to avoid the rush.

Certainly the best entertainment in Newcastle comes from St. James Park. Whenever Newcastle United Football clubs play a match, all the fans and the townspeople are involved in it. Everyone supports the players through thick and thin. Michael Owen, for example, has gone through a series of injuries, but the Newcastle fans still believe that he is the answer to their striker problems. Another example is Obafemi Martins, who after being rejected by FC Barcelona, was housed by the warm Newcastle crowd. An apt final example is Joey Barton, who always has court cases for assault. Both the Newcastle manager and the Newcastle fans still stand by him and support him during rough times.

When it comes to entertainment, there's nothing more entertaining than the excitement of Newcastle football, along with the warm crowd that can appreciate the human aspect of the athletes.

Newcastle is surely a nice place to visit, as it is a football Mecca as well as a nice place to observe traditional English culture. There are places that offer beer, football, wine, and tea – all the things that make up a solid, traditional English town. The Tyne Bridge is also an attractive place even for non-football fans.
